I looked into this myself a while ago. Plainly there is a risk you could damage the heating chemical element when yous remove it. I'm not sure how fragile they really are, merely I didn't experience like finding out.

They probably tell you not to remove them for both reasons- Considering if you damage it information technology may not work properly or safely, and they do want y'all to buy a new i.

I removed one once. ONCE! It'south risky. Brand sure information technology's unplugged, but warm.

You need a drywall putty spatula thinger, a metallic i. Empty the tank, and flip it upside down, or to any side the element is on. This requires a bit of patience, start from the side that the ability chord goes in, there'south usually a box, which houses the transformer. Stick the spatula in that location, and gently, at a very slight bending poke in there. Use your judgment on how much forcefulness to use. It should become pretty easy. What e'er y'all do, do not curve the element in any way shape or course. Practice NOT peel it similar a sticker. Information technology'due south not meant to be able to do that, and doing so volition impale it.

Equally for re-adhesion, the glue sucks, and so I simply used Metal Duct Tape. Good luck.

Oh, and for clarity. I am in no style responsible for whatever amercement to your element. Do this at your ain risk.

Run across, I was kind of hoping for an answer like this.... Information technology seems similar such a simple thing to brand (for such a toll) that I accept trouble believing it'southward so fragile. I'm gonna plug it in, heat it up, unplug it and try the spatula thing.

Oestrus Mat Transplant

I have done this with the smallest size Exo-Terra heat mat. It was stuck on there pretty well, but I used a metallic shim kinda similar Dukegarda'south spatula. The heater worked fine later on and stuck skilful to the new tank.

I but recently moved it yet again and information technology yet seems to work as practiced as new. The adhesive is starting to wear but it still sticks.

The cardinal is to work slowly and separate the agglutinative from the tank, not but ripping it off.

yeah i accept taken mine off and put it on new tanks and stuff. I didnt do information technology gently either, i just kinda grabbed and pulled. Bent it also and everything, only problem i had was it got less and less gluey with fourth dimension.

Im not saying you should just yank yours off, maybe i got lucky there, but im sure if you exercise information technology gingerly there is almost no danger actually

Just thought I'd throw this out at that place, one of my buddies in Ontario uses this stuff for his lizards. Works like a pro, information technology's cheaper than the ready made heatpads. IT's 100% customizable. And it's Actually REALLY inexpensive.

I accept no experience with this stuff, but he says information technology's great.

You lot do need to know a footling about soldering and the such. They exercise include directions though. And a thermostat is required. Just read the FAQ folio. =D

Dunno where you're buying those pads man. 20 bucks a pop would be slap-up. I got my 12" by 16" Hagen therma-pad for $49.99 CAD. It's super efficient @ 8W/H, has a built in thermostat set to thirty Celsius to prevent cooking accidents.

It's actually fairly simple technology, quite onetime. The big thing is, information technology's a specialty production. That'southward why they're and then damn expensive.

Well I just peeled the damn thing off, that wasn't also bad. They really stick! Left a lot of agglutinative behind on the sometime tank which I will make clean off with lighter fluid. Thanks once again everyone.
